Abstract/Summary:
In recent years, with the rapid development of China’s economy, the level of urbanization has been continuously improved, the number of motor vehicles is increasing, urban traffic congestion and haze pollution has become an important factor restricting the sustainable development of the city. The automobile exhaust caused by traffic congestion is an important source of haze pollution in cities. Therefore,it is of great significance to explore the impact of traffic congestion on haze pollution for controlling urban traffic congestion and improving urban environmental quality. In this paper,280 prefecture-level cities in China from 2009 to 2018 were selected as the research objects. The standard deviation ellipse and exploratory spatial data analysis methods were used to explore the spatial and temporal distribution characteristics of traffic congestion and haze pollution, and the spatial Durbin model was constructed for empirical analysis, robustness test and further analysis. The main conclusions are as follows:(1)From the perspective of the development status of traffic congestion and haze pollution, during the study period, the degree of traffic congestion in Chinese cities showed a linear increase, and the road traffic in most cities was in a slow state. The concentration of haze pollution showed an inverted’V’trend, and the concentration value was basically higher than 35ug/m~3.The variation trend of haze pollution concentration in the eastern, central and western regions is different. The haze pollution concentration in the central region is the highest, followed by the eastern region, and the western region is the lowest.(2)From the perspective of the spatial distribution characteristics of traffic congestion and haze pollution, traffic congestion is relatively stable in space, and haze pollution shows obvious spatial spillover characteristics in space. However, the moving distance and direction of the center position of haze pollution are greater than those of traffic congestion.Traffic congestion and haze pollution have obvious spatial autocorrelation and spatial agglomeration characteristics.(3)The impact of traffic congestion on haze pollution has an inverted U-shaped relationship. The robustness test is carried out by replacing the spatial weight matrix and the two-stage least squares method in the generalized space, and the test results are basically consistent with the empirical results.Under different spatial distance threshold weight matrix, the influence of traffic congestion on haze pollution presents spatial attenuation characteristics, that is,with the increase of distance, the influence coefficient of traffic congestion on haze pollution decreases.Traffic congestion and population agglomeration have moderating effects on haze pollution.Based on the above conclusions, the following suggestions are put forward:(1)All parties work together to increase the intensity of inter-regional collaborative governance of traffic congestion and haze pollution;(2)Take multiple measures to strengthen government-enterprise cooperation and achieve win-win results;(3)Improving the access threshold of vehicle exhaust emissions and improving the regulatory mechanism of road pollution;(4)Encourage green travel and improve the service level of public transport.Figure[13]table[17]reference[94]...
