Heterocyclic compounds are a type of ring compounds containing at least one heteroatom,which are the biggest family and occupy the most prominent position in organic chemistry.They exist in various natural products as well as core skeleton of differently significant compounds in life and industry.The most familiar heterocyclic compounds are nitrogen-containing heterocycle,sulfur-containing heterocycle and oxygen-containing heterocycle.Sulfoxonium ylides are safe and easily available compounds which have been used in different organic transforms on the area of natural products,pharmacology and material.They can participate in transition-metal catalyzed C-H activization as carbene precursors and alkylating reagent so that they can participate in various tandem reactions.We have summarized cascade cyclization reactions which involve sulfoxonium ylides,and constructed heterocyclic structure like isocoumarin and indolizine efficiently with sulfoxonium ylides.The main work is dividing into the following three aspects:The first part is a detailed introduction of C-H activization/cyclization with sulfoxonium ylides.We have summarized the current synthesis methods of tandem cyclization in which sulfoxonium ylides act as synthons.The second part introduces the application of isocoumarin and its derivatives and current reports on the synthesis of them.We highlight a ruthenium(II)-catalyzed synthesis of functionalized isocoumarins via homocoupling with sulfoxonium ylide.In this work,Ru(II)acts as catalyst,Ag Sb F6 as co-catalyst,propionic acid as additive,and sulfoxonium ylide acts as both the aromatic substrate and the acylmethylation reagent.The reaction features plain operation,high atomic economoy and wild substituent scope.In the third part,we firstly introduce the application of indolizines and reported synthesis of indolizine.Then,we highlight a metal-free[3+2]cyclization with 2-(pyridin-2-yl)acetates and sulfoxonium ylides,in which NIS participant in as free radical initiator.The process involves Adol condensation,tautomerism,radical transformation and disproportionation,and procudes 3-methylthio indolizines.
