Study On Carbon-based Materials And MOFs For The Adsorption Of VOCs

Abstract/Summary:
Reducing and eliminating VOCs is an important grasp of air pollution control in China.Adsorption is a simple and low energy-consumption technology for VOCs treatment.The basis of the adsorption technology is the research and development of adsorbents.Therefore,the development of adsorbents and the research on adsorption desorption process can provide theoretical and practical technical support for adsorption technology.The adsorption and desorption of styrene,a single VOCs component,on coal based activated carbon(CAC)and wood based activated carbon(WAC)were studied.Three types of MOFs,UiO-66,HKUST and MIL-101,were synthesized and their adsorption and desorption properties for styrene were tested.The effect of doping Fe3+,Fe2+,Cu2+on the adsorption of styrene by MOFs was investigated.The adsorption performance of activated carbon for complex VOCs component of cooking fume was investigated,and its regeneration process was studied.The adsorbent and adsorbed components were tested by BET,FT-IR,XRD,SEM,TG,elemental analysis,Boehm titration,COD,CCl4 adsorption value,iodine adsorption value,GC-MS and other means.The main conclusions are as following.(1)FT-IR analysis showed that there were more functional groups on WAC than that of CAC.Boehm titration showed that the amount of oxygen-containing functional groups on WAC were more than that on CAC,and both sides were consistent.The specific surface areas of WAC and CAC were 1827 m2/g and 1134 m2/g,respectively.Its adsorption capacities of WAC and CAC for styrene were 0.82 g/g and 0.41 g/g.The initial concentration of styrene increased from 1.5 g/m3 to 9.7 g/m3,and the saturated adsorption capacity increased from 0.58 g/g to 0.82 g/g.The adsorption kinetics of WAC for styrene is more in line with the second-order kinetic model,and CAC is better matched with the first-order kinetic model.The adsorption isotherm model of WAC is more consistent with the Sips model.(2)Carbon based materials were used to adsorb cooking fume(complex VOCs).Regeneration methods of used activated carbon were explored.GC-MS,FT-IR and elemental analysis showed that the main components of adsorbate were low-carbon alkanes and olefins.It was found that carbon tetrachloride adsorption rate,iodine adsorption value and COD can better reflect the regeneration effect of activated carbon.The regeneration rate of Fenton reagent,ozone oxidation method and heating method was 81.3%,65.8%and 50.1%respectively.(3)The adsorption performance of the synthesized HKUST and UiO-66 for styrene was very poor.TG results showed that the collapse temperature of MIL-101 was 350℃.The specific surface area of MIL-101was 2510 m2/g,and the specific surface area of MIL-101 doped with 15%CuCl2 was 2271 m2/g.the adsorption capacity for styrene was 0.79 g/g and0.75 g/g,respectively.Both of its desorption rate was 98%.(4)After three adsorption desorption cycles,WAC and MIL-101 still have good adsorption performance for styrene,and the adsorption capacity is larger than 0.75 g/g.The maximum desorption rate of MIL-101 was 98.1%at 60℃and that of WAC was 68%at 100℃.It shows that MIL-101 can achieve higher desorption rate under low requirements.
