Simulated moving bed(SMB),a continuous counter-current chromatographic separation process, can be reinforced by gradient operations. The performance of a new operation mode of a 8 column system that is featured by an outloop zone with independent temperature adjustment(4+1 zone)was evaluated based on multi-objective optimization results. For more generality,a dimensionless was developed. Moreover, sensitivity analysis of several key parameters were carried out to investigate the multi-dimensional parametric space.Parameters for ketoprofen enantiomers were used as the starting point.Concerned in this study are three major problem as below. The first is two-objective optimization with purity and productivity or solvent consumption as the objectives.Effects of adsorption selectivity(SC)and heat capacity ratio(λ),in the range of 1.3-1.66 and 0.11-0.45,respectively,were systematically examined. The second is a comparison between 4 + 1 zone and conventional 4 zone operations with internal temperature gradients. The results showed that either operation can be superior than the other, depending on the key parameter values. The third is three-objective optimization with purity, productivity and solvent consumption as the objectives.More specifically, the range in which 4 + 1 zone operation is superior than conventional 4 zone operation was investigated. The results further validate those obtained in the two-objective optimization problems. |
