For a long time, the study on the optimal operation of gas pipelines is mainly limited to steady-state,but gas pipelines are usually unpractical to maintain or even reach the strict steady-state.Therefore,the optimal operation scheme based on steady-state cannot be directly used for gas pipeline. In order to improve the applicability of optimized schemes for steady-state,this paper proposes a method by adjusting the steady-state optimal operation scheme, based on the characteristic method and the dynamic programming method, which inherits the steady-state optimal operation scheme and reduces the scale of transient-state calculation. The author used MATLAB to write a calculation program of transient-state optimization operation for the case that gas consumption fluctuation exists in the pipeline destination or the delivery point of the pipeline and verify the performance of the algorithm by a virtual gas pipeline. This paper also discusses the problem of the minimum-time switching gas pipeline from the current operation scheme to the target operation scheme, the influence of the switching speed, switching mode of discharge pressure and the switching sequence of compressor stations on the transition time is simulated by TGNET software, and the switching strategy which is helpful to the quick and smooth transition of the operation scheme is put forward.
