Controlled atmosphere composition and cold chainarevery effective to maintain the fresh flavor and quality of perishable fruits and vegetables during storage and transportaiton.This study presented effects of consolidated cold and modified atmosphere packaging(MAP)system as well as trays overwrapped with film for strawberries and Chinese bayberriesin view of practical application.It provides a good reference for further development and improvement of packaging technology of perishable fruits and vegetables logistics distribution.Combination ofmodified atmosphere packaging(MAP),phase change materials(PCM)and insulated expanded polystyrene(EPS)box was designed for the experiment of fresh strawberries storage.Real-time changes of gas composition,temperature and relative humidity inside packages,weight loss,total soluble solids,color,texture,respiration rate,electrolyte leakage,and general appearance of strawberries were determined during the storage in successive harvests of Dec 2017and Apr 2018.Fruit weight loss and electrolyte leakage were higher in the control strawberries comparing with packaged fruits.The relative electrolyte leakage of packaged and control fruits were 49.41%and 53.62%(10?,4 d),48.04%and51.09%(20?,2 d).The consolidated package system had significant effect on maintaining firmness,color,total soluble solids,and respiration rate of strawberries.And the global appearance scores were 7.53(10?,4 d)and 8.20(20?,2d),which were significantly higher than control.This packaging system had the potential use in express delivery of strawberry fruits when the ambient temperatures were not well controlled.Retail package plays a crucial role in maintaining the shelf quality of fruits and consumer's choice.This study investigated the performance of trays overwrapped with film as the most popular retail package of strawberries in terms of gas composition,physiological and quality attributes,aroma profile,microbial growth of strawberries stored at 4±1°C for 8 days.This kind of retail package could effectively reduce weight loss,fruit softening,respiration rate and ethylene production of strawberries.Among the different packages studied,package B with polyethylene film(equilibrium levels of 13.6-15.5%O2and 4.5-4.3%CO2)exhibited the most satisfying attributes.Appearance scores of strawberry in package B were 7.60 while control were 5.80 at the end of storage.Thus package B can potentially be used as the appropriate retail package for strawberries.Combination ofmodified atmosphere packaging(MAP),phase change materials(PCM)and insulated expanded polystyrene(EPS)box was also used for the storage of fresh Chinese bayberries after precooling.Dynamic changes of gas composition,temperature and relative humidity in the packages as well as weight loss,soluble solid content,texture,electrical conductivity and sensory quality of the fruits under the simulated logistics environment(30?)were determined.The weight loss and electrolyte leakage in fruits stored in consolidated packages were reduced.This packaging system had obvious effect on keeping the firmness,soluble solid content and sensory quality of the fruits.Fruits in this packaging system still had good commercial quality at room temperature for 36 h.
