Research On The Patterns And Characteristics Of Sustainability Of Coal Cities In China

As the most widely distributed and abundant mineral resources in China,coal has laid a solid energy foundation for the rapid development of China's economy and society.However,coal is a non-renewable resource.After mining for a certain period of time,problems such as shortage of available resources and increasing difficulty of mining will inevitably occur.Coal city is an important part of regional economy and its sustainable development has an important influence on economic society.In order to promote the sustainable development of coal cities,the first and most important step is to define the characteristics and models of sustainable development of coal cities.After establishing the indicator system for coal city sustainability and collecting the data of 55 coal cities at the prefecture-level,we use the data mining method--decision tree model and K-Means clustering model to analyze the characteristics and patterns of coal city sustainability in China.According to the results obtained by the decision tree model and K-means clustering model,we not only have a comprehensive understanding of the sustainable development model and characteristics of coal cities in China,but also find some novel laws hidden behind the data.The following conclusions are drawn from the decision tree model:most mature coal cities show signs of resource curse,while declining coal cities show two distinct development modes.The sustainable development of coal cities in northeast China is relatively good.The environmental quality of coal cities in north China,especially the air quality,is poor.According to the clustering model,the following results are obtained:coal cities in northeast China have the typical characteristics of "old industrial" bases;Most coal cities have a low level of sustainable development.Ordos is a unique city;Coal cities in east China have great development potential.To sum up,in order to promote the sustainable development of coal cities in China,it is necessary to change the traditional outdated concept of cities with mineral depletion,formulate and implement effective plans for the sustainable development of coal cities from the early stage of development,and pay more attention to the regional characteristics and differences of coal cities.
