Nylon 6,with excellent performances,is one of the five engineering plastics.Modification of nylon 6 can provide functionalized and differentiated products.Nylon 6 fibers are widely used in the apparel industry for their outstanding abrasion resistance,excellent elastic recovery and fatigue resistance.As applications continue to divide,different requirements are often put forward for specific applications.Therefore,in order to meet the water-repellent and anti-fouling requirements of taking fiber,especially for outdoor sportswear,as well as to improve the unique appearance and feel of microfiber fabrics,two modifications of nylon 6 are studied in this paper: first,polydimethylsiloxane(PDMS)is blended with nylon 6,and blended fibers are prepared and characterized;second,the effects of different compatibilizers and compatible methods on the compatibility of PET/PA6 blends are studied.The performance of PET/PA6/epoxy resin blended fibers are further investigated to regulate the quality of PET/PA6 composite microfiber fabrics by regulating the compatibility of PET and PA6 components.Nylon 6 chips are blended with polydimethylsiloxane(PDMS)masterbatch.Blended fibers with different content of PDMS masterbatch are successfully prepared.The optimal content is 5%of PDMS masterbatch.When the amount of PDMS masterbatch is 5%,the mechanical properties of the blended fibers are superior to those of PA6 fibers.The addition of PDMS helps improve the thermal stability of the PA6 fiber,which increases the thermal decomposition temperature.The PA6/PDMS blended fiber surface friction coefficient decreases significantly.The contact angle of water becomes larger,and the contact angle increases as the content of PDMS increases.Therefore,adding polydimethylsiloxane(PDMS)to nylon 6(PA6)fiber greatly improves the suitability of the fiber.Water-repellent,smooth,abrasion-resistant,high-strength,fiber-woven fabrics can be used in outdoor sportswear,demonstrating competitiveness and advantages in satisfying water-repellent and anti-fouling applications.In addition,three substances that can play a role of compatibilizing chain extension with PET or PA6 molecular chains are tried in this paper: epoxy resin,pyromelliticdianhydride(PMDA),triphenylphosphate(TPP).They are added as compatibilizers to the PET/PA6 blend and be observed.At the same time,different blending method were taken.Original method of direct blending were changed to first copolymerization and then blending to observe the compatibility of the PET/PA6 blend system.SEM and DSC are used to characterize the compatibility of the blends.The results show that the cross-section hole through formic acid etching becomes smaller and more distributed when epoxy resin and pyromelliticdianhydride are used to modify the PET/PA6 compatible system among the three directly blended compatibilizers.The crystallization peak at the time of melt cooling and the melting peak temperature at the time of temperature rise also change.Both of these compatibilizers are superior to triphenylphosphate in improving PET/PA6 compatibility.However,the first-copolymerization-and-then-blending method improves the compatibility significantly.There is no obvious interface between the two phases,and the melting point of PET in the blend system is also significantly reduced.For the PET/PA6 blend system with epoxy resin,the spinning experiment is explored in this work.Blended fibers can be prepared by direct blending and extrusion.During the melt extrusion process,the epoxy resin can react with PET and PA6 macromolecular chains to improve their compatibility.Because there is no pre-blending granulation,it is difficult to achieve uniformly add and disperse the epoxy resin.If the process is improved later,the use of masterbatch or predispersion of the epoxy resin in the polymer blend should improve the spinning performance and fiber properties.
