Wood aesthetics has attracted great interests in wood science field in recent years.The natural aesthetic properties of wood can be extracted from the macroscopic and microscopic levels,which has the potential application in product design and daily life,through the beauty of nature deeply being discovered.The research of wood aesthetics is expanding the field of the traditional wood design and brings new development of wood anatomy.This study also provides a better understand the deep-seated value of wood structure.In this thesis,a novel pattern design method for the wood aesthetics is proposed and three kinds of representative wood are utilized.The main works and conclusions were listed as follows:(1)Three kinds of representative wood,including European beech,Fraxinus chinensis,and wenge,were chosen for the research objects.These woods were made slices for observation of their microscopic structure.The images of the microscopic structure of woods were provided to analyze the characteristics such as xylem ray,axial parenchyma,and vessel.We choose clear pictures by microstructure of wood,to use for wood aesthetics.(2)The fractal theory and texture synthesis were introduced to pattern design.With the aid of computer software,we produced new patterns of wood aesthetics from the original design.The fractal pattern provided a good way for innovative pattern design owing to its irregular and complicated self-similarity characteristics.We utilized fractal software called ChaosPro to quickly produce various designs.The texture synthesis based on the texture block sample can effectively reduce the joint trace of the texture block and the stretching and distortion effect in the process of splicing process.It provide a new method for creation of wood aesthetics.In this thesis,we combined the two technologies,which are fractal theory and texture synthesis theory,to create wood aesthetic pattern.(3)Several design examples such as vase,plate,carpet,wall,and furniture were presented and the designed patterns were applied to the innovative design of the produces.The results showed that the good decorative and artistic effects are achieved.In this thesis,we focused on the fractal art theory and employed the fractal software to pattern design of wood aesthetics.The texture synthesis method was employed to design wood pattern.The proposed method could realize seamless image stitching and increased the flexibility of patterns with wood construction.We could apply the pattern design of wood aesthetics in daily life and discovered innovative design for products.The wood aesthetics has theoretical significance and value in practical application of wood science.
