Foamed steel is a kind of foamed metal.Due to the characteristic of its unique internal foam structure, which is light weight, high strength, and has strong energy absorption ability, strong thermal insulation ability, sound insulation ability and so on.It is expected to be used in construction, machinery, aerospace and other fields.Foamed steel is a kind of new material with a great application prospect. In this paper, the compression and tensile tests of foamed steel are carried out.And the relationship between mechanical properties and relative density and sintering temperature of foamed steel was analyzed. The relationships between energy absorption ability, energy absorption efficiency, ideal energy absorption efficiency and density were also analyzed.Meanwhile, the theory of foamed metal proposed by Gibson was verified in the paper.Based on the experimental results, the stress-strain relation of foamed steel was analyzed and fitted. At the same time, through the finite element software ABAQUS,eight kinds of models are established, including open hole cube model, obturator cube model, open hole octahedron model, obturator octahedron model, open hole decahedron model, obturator decahedron model, open hole twenty-six facets model and obturator twenty-six facets model. Finally, based on the research results of this paper, the following conclusions are obtained: The stress-strain curves of foamed steel under compressive and tensile loading are presented in two stages: linear elasticity stage and plasticit stage. The elastic modulus, the yield strength under compression loading are proportional to relative density. The the yield strength under tensile loading are proportional to relative density. The absorption capacity of foamed steel increases with the increase of the relative density, and the relative density has little effect on the energy absorption efficiency, and the ideal energy absorption efficiency decreases with the increase of the relative density. The relationship between stress, strain and relative density of foamed steel under compressive and tensile loads is obtained by fitting method. With the method of finite element simulation of foamed steel, the rationality of the assumed structure of foamed steel was verified and the inner structure of the foamed steel is proposed similar to the obturator decahedron model in elasticity stage and similar to the obturator octahedron model.
