The relationship between art-elicited being moved and positive, negative emotions has always been a concern. However, due to the complexity of evoking emotions, most of relevant studies do not control the experimental materials, therefore there is a lack o f controlled experimental evidence. This paper introduced an experimental paradigm evoking both positive and negative emotions, using a controlled experiment to study the effect of positive and negative emotions on art-elicited being moved. The materials s elected in this paper were happy and sad film clips. The subjects were asked to read the summary of the clip and then watch it.After watching other two to four clips, they were required to watch the same clip again, and read happy or sad supplementary content before watching it.With this paradigm, this paper generated four groups of positive and negative emotional experience. The psychological response collected was based on the five-level Likert scale(happy, sad, being moved, and enjoyment).Considering the individual differences in feeling moved, the hemodynamic response was collected through pseudo-resting state functional near-infrared spectroscopy study, and subjects were asked to press a button when they feel moved during watching film clips.Based on a hyperscanning method using wavelet coherence, this paper used coherence wavelet transform to analyse functional near-infrared spectroscopy data, and extracted the effective data according to button-pressing behaviour of subjects. The results of happy and sad scores showed that the supplementary content had effect on emotional experience, indicating that the experimental paradigm introduced in this article could achieve the study of mixed emotions through comparative analysis.Scores of being moved and enjoyment both showed that positive clips with sad contents had higher scores than positive clips with happy contents, and so as negative clips, which provided a new empirical evidence for the opinion that being moved was a mixed emotional state. The results of hemodynamic response showed that viewing moving film clips negatively activated supplementary motor area and dorsolateral prefrontal cortex, which was different to results from studies using moving music and poetry, indicating that being moved evoked by different kinds of artworks had different neural response. This paper verified that being moved is mixed emotions through a controlled experiment, and introduced an experimental paradigm allowing the comparative analysis of mixed emotions. This paper also provided a functional near-infrared spectroscopy data analysis method allowing pseudo-resting state study, which is more suitable for research which high individual differences like the study of being moved.
