The cicada genus Pomponia St?l,1866 belongs to the tribe Psithyristriini of the subfamily Cicadinae. Some species within this genus exhibit remarkable variations in external morphology and the shape of genitalia. In the present paper, this genus is reviewed with the description of three new species and one new record species from China: P.curvata sp.n.,P.zhejiangensis sp.n.,P.hainanensis sp.n.and P.brevialata Lee & Pham,2015.The phylogeny of Pomponia and its allies from China is constructed based on morphological characters and DNA sequences of mitochondrial gene fragment of COI.The phylogenetic results show that Pomponia is not monophyletic, thus we establish a new genus,Mormaua gen.n..This new genus includes two new species,M.grandis sp.n.and M.parvula sp.n.,and one species previously included in Pomponia,i.e.,P.orientalis,which is transferred to Mormaua gen.n.to become M.orientalis comb.n.In addition,P.yayeyamana Kato,1933 syn.n.is recognized to be a new synonym of P.linearis(Walker,1850),and P.rajah is transferred to Unipomponia to become Unipomponia rajah comb.n..A key to species of Mormaua gen.n.and Pomponia are provided, respectively, and photographs of external morphology and genitalia of all species from China are provided.
