The wetland ecosystem uses the physical and biochemical processes to absorb and store atmospheric carbon dioxide(CO2)in the ecosystem, thereby reducing the amount of carbon dioxide(CO2)in the region to achieve the goal of reducing the greenhouse effect. The carbon sequestration function and potential of wetlands play an important role in slowing down the rise of greenhouse gases. In this study, the soil covered by the extensive Phragmites communis?Halocnemum strobilaceum?Haloxylon ammodendron?Tamarix hispida in the Ebinur Lake wetland was studied. And analysis of soil organic carbon and soil organic carbon density under four different vegetation cover.Using different methods(maximum method, classification and grading method, saturation value method)to estimate the carbon sequestration potential of soil under four different vegetation cover,so as to provide a basis for the research and management of lake wetland soil in arid areas, the main findings are as follows:(1)There were differences in soil organic carbon content under different vegetation cover. The distribution of soil organic carbon content in Halocnemum strobilaceum?Haloxylon ammodendron?Phragmites communis?Tamarix hispida was between 0.04- 22.44g/kg?0.39-38.38g/kg?0.37-22.33g/kg and 0.24-23.56g/kg.By conversion, the soil organic matter content in the study area is generally at a low level, the 0-20cm?20-40 cm soil layer is at the III level, and the 40-100 cm soil layer is at the V level; The soil organic carbon content gradually decreased with the increase of soil depth.According to the analysis of organic carbon coefficient of variation, the soil organic carbon of Halocnemum strobilaceum?Phragmites communis and Haloxylon ammodendron is moderately variegated at 0-100 cm.The soil organic carbon of Tamarix hispida is moderately variability at 0-80 cm and strong variability at 80-100 cm.(2)according to the calculation, the average soil organic carbon density under the four different vegetation covers in the study area can be obtained:Tamarix hispida is22.68kg·m-2,Haloxylon ammodendron is 21.41 kg·m-2,Halocnemum strobilaceum is 14.23kg·m-2,and Phragmites communis is 11.86 kg·m-2.The soil organic carbon density under four different vegetation covers in the research area is as follows:Tamarix hispida>Haloxylon ammodendron>Halocnemum strobilaceum>Phragmites communis.(3)the maximum value method, saturation value method and classification and grading method were used to estimate the carbon sequestration potential of soil under four different vegetation covers in the study area.It can be obtained that the actual soil carbon sequestration potential under the four different vegetation covers of the study area is about 0.16-0.64Mt,and the maximum value method,as the ideal soil carbon sequestration potential under the four different vegetation covers of the study area,is estimated to be about 2.08Mt.The carbon sequestration potential of the study area under four different vegetation covers was estimated by classification and grading method(high)and saturation value method, and it took about 148-201a to reach the carbon sequestration potential level.
