The study used a constant modern external forcing to drive the first edition of the NUIST Earth system model(NUIST-ESM v1),simulated 50-year global tropical cyclone activities.First,we compared the model with the observed data to evaluate the climatic characteristics of the model to simulate tropical cyclone activity, then we want to know the model can simulate main conclusions of the activities of the tropical cyclone in the western North Pacific at the time of the ENSO event and the two types of El Ni?o events or not,the conclusions are as follows:1.The NESM v1 model can simulate vortex structure similar to tropical cyclone. It can simulate vortex activity in the ocean where tropical cyclones are active, there are 76.2 tropical cyclones can be simulated each year. The spatial distribution and impact range of simulated tropical cyclones are similar to the observation, but the number of tropical cyclones in various areas are different from the observation. The number of tropical cyclones in the North Indian Ocean and the South Pacific is more than observation. The number of tropical cyclones in the Northeast Pacific and North Atlantic is less than observation;the number of the Northwest Pacific and South Indian Ocean is close to observation.2.The NESM v1 model can simulate large-scale features similar to observations such as sea temperature, vertical shear, and low-level vorticity, but there are bias in local areas, which leads to the difference in simulating tropical cyclone. For example, the model simulated low vorticity in the North Indian Ocean, resulting in the failure to simulate the bimodal characteristics of the monthly frequency of tropical cyclones in the North Indian Ocean.3.The NESM v1 model can simulate the sea surface temperature distribution similar to the observation when El Ni?o and La Ni?a events occurs, the model can also simulate the sea surface temperature difference when the eastern and central El Ni?o events occurs. However, the model cannot simulate the tropical cyclone activity in western Pacific Ocean well when ENSO event occurs.
