The Study On The Effects Of Target And Background Congruency In Target Recognition

"Brain and Cognitive Science" is an emerging cross-research field.Its main function is to explain the working principle of the brain through the means and methods of natural science.As an important branch of "brain and cognitive science",visual cognition is to explore the working mechanism of human visual cognition.The combination of visual cognition and computer technology is to apply the working mechanism of human visual cognition to the directions of computer vision(such as enhancing the cognitive ability of machine vision).But at present,our understanding of the human visual cognitive mechanism is not very thorough,so we hope to explore the visual mechanism of the human brain through more research,so as to provide a theoretical basis for the research of machine vision and other directions.Target recognition is one of the key issues to be studied in the process of exploring the working mechanism of human visual cognition.It is affected by many factors,such as attention,expectation,awareness,congruency,and so on.Congruency refers to the consistent relationship between the target and the background.At present,there is not a clear understanding of the influence of the congruency of the background and the target in the target recognition process,so this thesis explores this issue.Existing conscious studies have shown that when the background and the target are presented at the same time,their congruency will affect the target recognition in the scene.But when the background and the target are not presented at the same time(sequential presented),we do not know whether their congruency will affect the target recognition or not.This is exactly the problem to be explored in this thesis: the impact of the congruency that target and background are not presented at the same time on target recognition.Target recognition has two situations,consciously and subconsciously.Therefore,this thesis explores the problem under two conditions: subconsciously and subconsciously.This thesis found through experiments that,under the conscious situation,when the target is a vehicle,even if the background appears before the target,the congruency between the two will still affect the response time required by the subject for target recognition;when the target is an animal,There is no such conclusion;in the case of consciousness,whether the target is an animal or a vehicle,its congruency will not affect the response time.That is,in the case of consciousness,the congruency of the background and the target will affect the specific type of target recognition;in the case of consciousness,its congruency will not affect the target recognition.
