In the study of the mechanism of visual information processing, for the problem of how the brain receives external information from the retina and finally how to form consciousness, the original view is that the signal from the retina-the primary visual cortex(V1)-eventually forms consciousness, that is,through the cortical pathway Completed information processing.Later,a large number of studies found another pathway that did not pass V1,which was called the subcortical pathway. Many of these evidences indicate that the processing of topological perception and emotional content may involve subcortical pathways,so can this be verified and explored through experiments? This thesis takes topological perception and emotion as research objects, and conducts experiments on the above issues. The main work content and conclusions are as follows:First of all,for the study of topological perception,on the one hand, using the learning effect,it is found that compared with non-topological features, the visual system's ability to detect topological features does not have acquired learning effects. On the other hand, transcranial direct current stimulation(tDCS)was used to deactivate V1.It was found that the detection ability of topological features did not change significantly, and even improved, while the detection ability of non-topological features decreased. This once again confirms that the visual system does not require V1 for the detection of topological features, but instead walks through the subcortical pathway.Secondly, for the study of emotions,we introduce the abstract art paintings as emotional pictures and use the Continuous Flicker Suppression Paradigm(CFS)to conduct cognitive research on the emotional content of consciousness. The study found that the perception of emotions can be done subconsciously, that is,without the involvement of V1,which further confirms that the processing of emotions is completed through the subcortical pathway.Based on the research of the above two aspects,it is further confirmed that the visual system's cognitive process of topological perception and emotional content is the same pathway, that is,the subcortical pathway. These studies provide further neuroscientific evidence for the study of visual pathways. At the same time, they provide ideas for the construction of neural networks in artificial intelligence and provide theoretical guidance for future machine vision research.
