Microfluidic dye lasers have been the essential component to the photonic laser sources in integration with micro-total analysis systems, due to the advantages of low threshold, less consumption,as well as compactness. In this paper,we design and fabricate two kinds of microfluidic dye lasers and study their optical performance,experimentallyFabry-Perot(F-P)cavities show the advantages in ease of implementation and good compatibility. We fabricate optofluidic dye laser based on F-P cavity, which consists of a PDMS chip made by traditional soft lithography techniques and PDMS rapid prototype method and Au-coated cleaved optical fiber. When the active region with laser dye is pumped, directional lasing emission out-coupled by the fiber is realized with a relatively low threshold. It is easy to tune the lasing emission wavelength by changing the solvent of the same laser dye.In addition, the various intensity ratios of multicolor lasing can be achieved by controlling flow rates of two fluid streams carried with different dye molecules, which makes a simple way to achieve white laser.Whispering gallery mode optical micro-cavities show good optical field localization and high quality factor.By brushing a layer of PDMS doped with laser dye on a single mode optical fiber,we fabricate many bottle-shaped micro-cavities with different diameters, which are decided by the volume of droplets and brushing speed. This laser achieves a threshold of several?J/mm~2,which is related to the diameters of micro-cavities and the polarization of the pump laser. These two kinds of micro-fluidic dye lasers share the advantages of small volume, low threshold, tenability,as well as easy fabrication, which makes them a promising underlying coherent light source in the integrated micro-total systems.
