Yaojiang Plain in Zhejiang Province is located in the Yangtze River Delta region, which is sensitive to the Southeast monsoon. The vegetation in this area was affected by the interaction of climate, sea level and human activities. In this paper, the HMD 1401 core in Luojiang Village,Yuyao City was get.On the basis of establishing a good chronological framework of AMS14C,the Holocene paleovegetation and Paleoclimate in Yaojiang Plain,Zhejiang Province were reconstructed by pollen analysis, dinoflagellate and charcoal analysis. The vegetation types in Yaojiang Plain transited from coniferous and broad-leaved mixed forests of late glacial to early Holocene to evergreen and deciduous broad-leaved mixed forests of late Holocene.During the period of 13.8-10.3 cal ka BP,the climate was relatively cold and dry.During the period of 10.3-9.2 cal ka BP,the climate became warm and humid.During the period of 9.2-4.0 cal ka BP,the climate was very warm and humid. After 4.0 cal ka BP,the climate became cooler.Since the Holocene, the climate change in the Yaojiang Plain has been mainly dominated by the change of solar radiation. When the East Asian monsoon becomes stronger, the climate in the Yaojiang Plain becomes warm and humid, while the climate becomes cool and dry after the East Asian monsoon weakens. The Neolithic culture in Yuyao Basin has been flourishing under favorable climatic conditions. The newly discovered Jingtoushan culture(between 9.0 and 8.0 Ka BP)is the earliest Neolithic culture in the region. After 7.0 and 4.5 ka BP,stable and warm and humid climatic conditions gave birth to Hemudu culture and early Liangzhu culture. The development of Liangzhu culture from 4.5 to 4.0 ka BP declined under the influence of unstable climate. The results of Gramineae pollen showed that rice agriculture developed as early as 10.0 kaBP in this region or adjacent areas.Rice agriculture flourished at 6.5 cal Ka BP and matured at 4.5 cal ka BP.
