Abstract/Summary:
The goals of this study are the characterization of an image sensor with energy harvesting capability and the development of a platform for imaging, energy harvesting and optical communication. Fields of application for the platform are for example surveillance of infrastructure like highways, bridges and airports and the observation of nature like forests, rivers and coastlines. The image sensor with energy harvesting capability was examined regarding image quality, photon transfer curve and energy harvesting performance. The platform for imaging, energy harvesting and optical communication was designed around the image sensor while considering the results of the image sensor tests. The developed platform provides the ability to perform research regarding small scale energy harvesting, smart devices and wireless sensor networks which are key technologies on the way to the Internet of Things.
