| Brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) have become a promising tool in neuroscience for both understanding the brain and increasing quality of life. While the majority of BCIs are designed for clinical use, it is possible to create a custom, open-source BCI system that can perform with relative efficacy using commonly available tools and components if done in a precise and deliberate manner. In this project we set out to explore different hardware combinations based on this outlook, with the goal of creating a functional in-vitro test platform for design and fabrication of our custom electrodes for eventual use in closed-loop BCIs. With better comprehension of the interplay between components, as well as the variability within our own fabrication process, a high-quality functional product can be created for our partners within the National Science Foundation Engineering Research Center for Sensorimotor Neural Engineering (CSNE). |
