Abstract/Summary:
The purpose of this capstone project was to research how important the public and private sectors, which work together with the Defense Industrial Base (DIB), support the vital goal of protecting one of the nation's critical infrastructures. This study included how significant the research that the DIB conducts to support having a strong cyber security measures in place to prevent potential cyber-related incidents to include the insider threat. This study included an in-depth look at the insider threat, the risk management framework, and the importance of implementing policies and procedures to prevent a cyber-attack. The research questions presented identified the protocols used to protect the DIB from insider threats via the public and private sector. Additionally, these research questions targeted the importance of understanding risk management and mitigating factors to support the potential reduction of an insider threat. Through the literature review process, the insider threat identified a significant cyber related security concern as seen in recent events. The potential impact of an insider threat justifies the necessity for policies and procedures be implemented within the DIB and their contractors. The components of the risk management framework is useful in the DIB to build a foundation of preventative measures to support a cyber security program. A review of the DIBs policies and procedures justifies a greater awareness is needed for future cyber security published research. These future publications will provide useful and relevant information to prevent cyber-attacks.;Keywords: Defense Industrial Based Sector (DIB), cybersecurity, insider threat, risk assessment, risk management, risk mitigation, risk management framework.
