Abstract/Summary:
The continuous-wave doubly resonant optical parametric oscillatory (DRO) has the potential of efficiently generating tunable outputs that preserve the coherence of the pump radiation. In operation, however, DRO's exhibit instability and complex tuning characteristics that have limited the use of these devices in practical applications. The observed tuning properties of monolithic LiNbO;The tuning model developed in this thesis is used to analyze the conditions required for stable operation of both monolithic and discrete component DRO's. The tolerances are stringent: temperature stability better than 0.001;Some of the remaining practical problems concerning DRO operation are also addressed.
