Abstract/Summary:
The purposes of this study were twofold: (a) to determine the relationship between job satisfaction, locus of control, salary, level of education, years of teaching experience, and years of special education supervision for the special education supervisor; and (b) to determine the relationship between locus of control, salary, and level of education for the direct administrator responsible for supervision of the special education supervisor.;Locus of control orientation was assessed by Rotter's Internal-External Locus of Control Scale, while job satisfaction was measured by the Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire. Information regarding salary, level of education, years of teaching experience, and years as a special education supervisor were collected using a questionnaire survey.;The study revealed that there was not a positive relationship between salary and level of education for both the special education supervisors and administrators. The data did not support the hypothesis regarding a positive relationship between locus of control and job satisfaction of the special education supervisor; and, also, it did not support a relationship between the special education supervisors' locus of control and the administrators' locus of control. The data did not support a positive correlation between salary, level of education, number of years teaching experience and number of years as a special education supervisor with a high level of job satisfaction. The hypothesis which investigated the level of education and salary with locus of control was also rejected.;The major conclusions can be explained by considering the homogeneous grouping that was surveyed. The level of education, job description, certification requirements and salary is affected by the influence of the State Department of Education.;The total population of 94 special education supervisors in Arkansas public school districts, along with each of their immediate administrators, comprised the population of this study. Of 94 special education supervisors in the sample, 67, or 71%, responded with usable questionnaires and surveys. Thirty-two, or 34% of the immediate administrators responded with usable questionnaires.
