Over the past several years credit unions have suffered huge losses due to fraudulent acts, particularly insider fraud. Credit unions are nonprofit organizations formed by people and/or organizations sharing a common bond---an alluring structure that often invites insider fraud. While no blanket solution to this fraud exists, evidence suggest that applications of prevention rather than detection may drastically reduce the number of fraudulent acts in credit unions. The situational crime prevention approach offers preventative applications that focus on deterring potential offenders from committing these acts, thereby reducing incidents of fraud.;Keywords: Economic Crime Management, Professor Greg Campbell, financial institutions, ethics, reducing provocation.
