Abstract/Summary:
The Tuscarora mining district, in western Elko County, Nevada, is located along southeast ring fault zone bounding the resurgent dome of the Eocene Mount Blitzen collapse caldera. Juxtaposed by reverse faulting along this arcuate zone are caldera collapse breccias of the resurgent dome against folded and tilted back post-collapse lavas, ring and radial feeder dikes, bedded tuffs, and lacustrine moat sediments. During the caldera's resurgence ring volcanism changed from rhyolite to andesite-dacite composition. After or very late in caldera's resurgence, hydrothermal solutions altered most of the district's rocks and deposited epithermal gold and silver vein and stockwork mineralization.
