Abstract/Summary:
In "A SET OF SPECIFIC AND GENERAL QUESTIONS ONE MIGHT ENCOUNTER WHEN ATTEMPTING TO SELF- ANALYZE" I deconstruct my artistic practice. Inherent in the work is a kind of wading through materiality, memory, and the affective influences of space on an individual. The question of how to bring forth from within the viewer a feeling of bewilderment, or childish enthusiasm through a pointed material interaction rooted in personal memory is explored. Much like the work itself, the following document does not outright or overtly state how you are meant to arrive at a conclusion, or even what that conclusion should be, but rather attempts to build the environment in which you might take that upon yourself. Spacing develops pace, imagery pulls the individual into unknown spaces, gradually illuminating key moments, and tone orients relationships. The question of how we, as a society, engage with and respond to the everyday is explored through memory, space, object relations, and temporality. This thesis mimics the artistic choices I make within the work, and as such unfolds, learns and unlearns itself in the quiet moments of introspection.
