Abstract/Summary:
This thesis encompasses my process of creating the character Lady Macbeth for a production of Macbeth by William Shakespeare at Regent University's Main Stage, directed by Dr. Michael Kirkland, and performed from October 10th to 19th, 2014. I will discuss this creative process in detail from early research into the final performance. In the introduction, I address my state of problem, where I share all the challenges to play this role and how I will try to tackle them. Chapter One collects all the research about the play and its themes. Chapter Two is dedicated to textual analysis of the play, defining the premises, the counter and controlling idea, structural progression, and spine phrases of the main characters. Chapter Three concentrates on character analysis and methods in overcoming challenges in playing Lady Macbeth. Chapter Four are assemblage of my journals of my experience that I wrote during my process and performances. Finally, Chapter Five concludes with my personal thoughts about the process both positive and negative, critical responses from two professional theatre scholars, and a reflection on what I would do differently if I were to play this role again.
