Abstract/Summary:
This study seeks to address the problem of inter-cultural friction posed by the attempt of a Western missionary to teach stewardship in a traditional society. It intends to present not only how stewardship might be contextualized in a traditional society but also how such societies can bring new insights into the Biblical meaning of stewardship for the entire church.; The author makes a biblical survey of stewardship concept traces the development of the "indigenous church" concept and its legacy, discusses the effect of economic systems upon biblical hermeneutics, and uses insights from economic anthropology to provide a background for a contextualization of stewardship. This study concludes that since a society's view of wealth is a foundational value, a vital Christian faith must have culturally appropriate economic expression.; Analyses are based on library research and the author's six years of experience in Cameroon. A selected annotated bibliography on stewardship is included.
