| This study deals intensively with Drink ye all of it, the ninth chapter of Rudy Wiebe's 1970 novel The Blue Mountains of China. Chapter nine may be viewed as an independent short story. In its use of language and narrative technique it is also substantially more complex than the remaining chapters.; In order to produce an accurate rendering of chapter nine into German, the study first examines the original text for possible areas of translational difficulty. Several problem areas are identified, grouped according to category, and discussed.; Based on the detailed discussion and analysis of the special translational problems appearing in the original text, the thesis then generates and presents as its final chapter the first translation into German of Chapter nine of Rudy Wiebe's The Blue Mountains of China. In doing so, it also provides a translational basis not only for a translation of the entire novel, but also for other works which contain similar linguistic and translational difficulties.
