Abstract/Summary:
Gastrocnemius muscle mRNA from male rats that were either hypophysectomized (hypox), sham-operated (sham), hypox and treated with growth hormone (GH), or sham operated pair fed was quantitated by in vitro translation. Growth hormone treatment increased the concentration of total RNA and mRNA. All the mRNAs measured increased following GH injection in hypox rats. Data also indicates that pituitary factors other than GH and nutritional status also affect the levels of mRNA in rat gastrocnemious muscle.
