| In East Texas the Class Liliatae contains 25 families, 179 genera, and 583 species of herbaceous plants. The largest family is the Poaceae with 243 species in 85 genera. The Cyperaceae has 159 species in 13 genera. Other families include the Liliaceae with 40 species, the Orchidaceae with 26 species, the Juncaceae with 21 species, and the Iridaceae with 18 species. The remaining 19 families all contain 10 species or less. A key to the families, and keys to the genera and species are included. Short descriptions of all species of herbaceous Liliatae in East Texas are included. Plant communities of East Texas are briefly described. Herbaceous species characteristic of each community are included in the descriptions. |
