This is an investigation of vibrations in composite floor systems. Both hand calculations and computer simulations were used to calculate the anticipated peak acceleration of a particular bay in a multi-story office building. These results were used to show how sensitive the damping factor assumptions are, as well as the joist spacing. From the comparison, it can be concluded that the joist spacing does significantly impact the predicted peak acceleration. Both hand calculations and software analysis were used in this example, with hand calculations resulting in a more conservative option. |
