Abstract/Summary:
This thesis addresses the design and renovation of early 21st century hospitality facilities to meet the physical needs of an aging population. To date there has not been any significant research on the design of these facilities to accommodate the average person at the age of 65.;In order to suggest design solutions for typical hotel interior spaces to accommodate the aging population, a number of related areas of study pertaining to this topic were explored. These areas include the hospitality industry, the baby boom generation, codes pertaining to accessibility, as well as the physical issues concerning the average person at the age of 65.;Designing interior environments for the average person in this age group is significant because his physical differences represent accessibility issues that could affect individuals at any age. Therefore, the interior design will accommodate the needs of the majority of the population.
