| An investigation of the synthesis and Fries Rearrangement of aryl alpha-chloroisobutyrate esters was undertaken (a) to investigate the preparation of these new esters from the now available alpha-chloroisobutyric acid and acid chloride, (b) to study the behavior of these esters in Fries Rearrangement reactions, and (c) to produce and identify new phenolic indanones and their copper chelate salts with various substituents which would probably be useful as agricultural control agents.
