Abstract/Summary:
Previous studies by other authors showed that the combination of complex configurations and heat-integration for distillation design can result in very large reduction in energy consumption. However, these studies only investigated the steady state design. The dynamics and control aspects of these systems are virtually unexplored.;For the low purity (95%) system, the results showed that the complex heat-integrated schemes (PF/R and PF/F) are controllable and give good dynamic responses compared to the simple conventional LOF scheme which consumes twice as much energy.;For the high purity (99.9%) system, the PF/R scheme is controllable but can only handle small (;The purpose of this thesis is the study of the dynamic controllability of the complex heat-integrated schemes. Both low and high purity systems were explored. A ternary mixture of benzene, toluene and m-xylene was used.
