Experiments have been conducted to determine the microstructural changes and their effect on hardness and oxidation behavior of the particle reinforced composite Ti-8.5Al-1B-1Si (wt%) alloy. Scanning electron and optical microscopy showed a structure characterized by a uniform dispersion of spherical silicides and rod shaped boride particles in an equiaxed grain ;Microhardness measurements on the heat treated samples showed a decrease in hardness with the annealing temperature below 900;The oxidation rate was found to be parabolic.
