| Studies on the photooxidation of anthraquinones revealed that 1-amino-2-alkylanthraquinones give the corresponding 2-acyl-1-aminoanthraquinones in a self-sensitized fashion under the influence of light and oxygen.;Application of this novel and regioselective process in the conversion of 9-acetyl-6-amino-7,8,9,10-tetrahydro-5,12-naphtha-cenedione, which was prepared via a Marschalk intramolecular cyclization, to 3-acetyl-12-amino-1,2,3,4,6,11-hexahydro-1,6,11-naphthacenetrione, an important intermediate for the total synthesis of 6-amino-4-demethoxy-6,11-dideoxydaunomycinone is successfully accomplished. |
