Abstract/Summary:
The Wilcox has been explored for petroleum and other economic purposes since the early 1900's. Massive structural features and various depositional environments have been identified and aided in hydrocarbon exploration. Hydrocarbon exploration is ideal for Lower Wilcox Group siliciclastics and aided in collecting the data necessary to supply geologic research. The study area is a dominant gas prone basin with limited areas of oil production. Depositional environments, such as incised valleys and stratigraphic traps found in the Lower Wilcox, hold potential for abundant hydrocarbon reservoirs.;Regional Wilcox Group research supported identification of large scale depositional environments. However, smaller local studies are uncommon in Southeast Texas. Deltaic sub- environments within the local study area of approximately 23 square miles were identified during the research. The key goal throughout this study was to depict deltaic sub-environments within the Trinity River Delta System and identify a local and complete deltaic environment.
