Abstract/Summary:
he Sudbury Neutrino Observatory will study the Solar Neutrino Problem through the detection of charged current (CC), neutral current (NC), and elastic scattering (ES) interactions of solar neutrinos with heavy water. The measurement of the relative NC and CC rates provides a method for observing neutrino oscillations, and may confirm the existence of a neutrino mass. The NC interaction is a critically important aspect of the experiment, which breaks up the deuteron producing a neutron and a proton. The reaction rate is measured by counting free neutrons.
