The complex involves three different levels of activity. 100 to 120 feet deep bedrock rooted failures form the main boundary of the slide. Within the complex are intermediate zones of more active and/or more recent movement of colluvial material. Shallow surface failures comprise the final level of activity and occur within the complex and around its periphery. Data suggest activity in the area for at least the last 8000 years with activity occurring as recently as 1992. Recent activity has damaged U.S. 24 in 1984 and 1992, and involves only the colluvial material. Instability in the colluvium is caused by extended periods of high ground moisture conditions. | | Keywords/Search Tags: | Complex, Landslide | PDF Full Text Request | Related items |
