Abstract/Summary:
The bedrock of China-U.S relationship in today's globalized era is economic. While trade barriers and non-economic issues impede further development of relations between the two nations, the problems should be better studied and understood. This paper reviews the major reasons for the large China-U.S. trade imbalance, factors that affect China's MFN trade status, debate on human rights, intellectual property rights and environment protection in China. For the security of Asia and the Pacific, China and the United States should adopt a policy that serves the national interests of both countries based on mutual trust and respect.
