Abstract/Summary:
A computer simulation has been designed, using ray tracing, to calculate an interference pattern output from a Michelson interferometer. The reference mirror of the interferometer is used to perform a longitudinal scan through an object to produce a set of intereference patterns corresponding to a locus of points of equal optical path length. The set of interference patterns is then used to reconstruct an image of the optical properties of an object. This imaging method is a form of Optical Coherence Tomography.; Simulated interferograms are presented for a selection of perfect reflecting surface objects. The surfaces are a flat mirror a tilted flat mirror, and a curved mirror. Also presented, is a selection of weakly scattering volume objects. These objects are a variety of thin slabs with varying refractive indexes, multi-layered objects, and a cylindrical object. These images are discussed to illustrate the functionality of the simulator as well as to verify the correctness of the simulator.
