Abstract/Summary:
A mode-matching method is presented for analyzing a junction discontinuity in a cylindrical waveguide lying within the interior of a larger waveguide. Two cases are solved involving the constraints of the inner cylindrical junction: one where the junction was capped or closed and the other where the junction remains open ended. The standard method for solving this is expanding the fields in terms of a finite number propagating TE and TM modes.;An alternative approach presented by Davies in his "Least-Squares Boundary Residual Method" (LSBRM), minimizes the mean square error in the matching of the tangential fields across the junction in hopes that this method does not suffer from the relative convergence problem. In this thesis we solve the junction problem using both the standard mode matching method and the Davies residual boundary method and compared the results.;Finally, a microwave equivalent circuit was synthesized and proposed as a solution model to a reflection problem depicted for a Dual Frequency Microwave Feed Assembly (Mitchell, 1990).
