Abstract/Summary:
Laptops, mobiles, and other hand-held devices are powered by various means of connectivity. Everyone wants their devices connected to networks that have high-speed data transfer and high bandwidth. The quality of service (QoS) of these networks keeps changing with many network environment parameters, and to maintain the QoS of these networks, vertical handoff (VHO) between the networks is essential. QoS is given higher priority and parameters for each service are utilized for decision making. While many methods are available for decision making, we use a fuzzy system and optimize it for best results. QoS parameters such as available bandwidth, jitter, bit error rate (BER), end-to-end delay, and reliability are chosen based upon the requested service. Using fuzzy systems, we designed a robust algorithm for the vertical handoff.
