Abstract/Summary:
This project focuses on implementing speech recognition technology at a pilot site within a multi-specialty physician organization. The decision to pursue a pilot implementation was primarily based on an increase in transcription costs, workflow inefficiencies and slow documentation turnaround times well as provider requests to evaluate the implementation of speech recognition technology. Implementing this technology would allow providers to dictate real-time into the electronic health record and instantly review and sign their documentation; helping to address the concerns outlined above and improving the overall quality of patient care.;The completion of this project is supported by information and theories obtained through a literature review as well as knowledge from previous coursework and experience working in health information management. Specifically, the final product includes four main components: an implementation plan and timeline for a speech recognition application, pilot site selection criteria, training guidelines and materials, and evaluation tools and metrics for success. These components will help facilitate the planning and implementation process and help the organization measure the overall success of the pilot against its project goals and objectives.
