The advantage of bringing computation to field applications has led to an increase in location-based computing by many government and industrial organizations. Putting computing devices in the field creates a number of interesting challenges. Issues such as smaller screen size and weather complications are added to issues like varying levels of user ability. Adaptive interfaces provide the designer with the possibility of mitigating some of these challenges.;This thesis describes an error-based approach for adapting user interfaces to enhance performance in field settings. The proposed approach builds on vision and motor errors as a means of triggering the adaptive interface. The model and the current status of the approach are discussed.
