Abstract/Summary:
This thesis explores the effects of using chemical demonstrations in teaching analytical chemistry at Cantho University. This work designed some chemical experiments used to illustrate concretely some basic principles in analytical chemistry. The study probes and evaluates how the teaching process affects on the students' attitudes when they learn from demonstrations. The pedagogical meanings of the approach are also evaluated in comments of members of the Department of Chemistry in the Faculty of Education, Cantho University. Because of the need for practical applications, the demonstrations were designed to suit the Vietnamese context.; The content of the experimental teaching program focuses on the integration of chemical demonstrations with lecturing in teaching analytical chemistry. The field test of the program was conducted in a third-year chemistry class of 35 students and a group of selected chemistry instructors of the Department of Chemistry at the Faculty of Education in Cantho University. The effects of the experimental teaching method was studied and evaluated.; The data analysis shows that the experimental teaching program had positive effects on students' attitudes toward learning in the course. The results show increases in students' interests and assimilation of knowledge when learning analytical chemistry with demonstration experiments. Although there are some limitations to the implementation, chemistry instructors agreed that chemical demonstrations can be effectively used in teaching chemistry to promote students' learning.
