Abstract/Summary:
The Matanuska-Susitna (Mat-Su) campus, an extended college of the University of Alaska Anchorage, received a federal Title III grant. Activity II of the grant funded initiatives to integrate technology in the classroom strengthening student success. The grant sought to overcome existing barriers through financial incentives, training, on-going support, and the purchase of classroom technology.;Findings indicated that barriers to faculty participation in technology development continued despite availability of the Educational Technology Specialist and curriculum development assistance. However, once faculty participated in the Mat-Su program, they integrated technology into their curriculum over 75% of the time. Eighty-nine percent of faculty indicated professional development positively influenced their use of technology, and 43% of respondents felt no barriers existed limiting the use of computers in the classroom. Finally, 85% of faculty indicated an improvement in professional development in technology during the 2000--2001 academic year.;The research focused on what a faculty technology development program should look like based on an on-going program in a university setting. To analyze the effectiveness a 13-question evaluation tool completed by faculty was utilized.
