ERP adoption and implementation is a complex exercise in organizational innovation and change management. It has enterprise-wide implications, high resource commitment, and high potential business benefits and risks, which make it important for research. Unfortunately, not much empirically supported research on the issue is available. This has motivated us to study this process in organizations which have adopted and implemented ERP systems.; The innovation process theory approach is taken for the study and Markus and Tanis (2000) model is adopted to delineate the ERP adoption process. However, as many of the organizations in our study had not moved into the post implementation stage, the study is focused on the adoption and implementation stages of the ERP adoption process. Data is collected through a questionnaire and structured interviews. Although each adopting organization has a distinct set of objectives for its systems, we found many similarities in motivations, concerns, and strategies across organizations.
