Was "The Battle of the Coral Sea" simply a footnote in World War II history or was it more than that? This paper examines why and how this crucial naval engagement occurred and how it changed the course of the war.;This important naval sea battle changed the course of events that took place after May 8, 1942. The effects of this battle changed the direction of the war that lasted another thirty-nine months. The events that took place in the Coral Sea put the United States Navy in a winning position at Midway. The Battle of the Coral Sea is in fact one of two crucial naval engagements between the Japanese Empire and the United States. The evidence presented in this paper bears out that thesis.
